What's Happening in January 2014?

Dear Parents,

Times flies and we are already in the middle of Term 1.  Let's take a look at what had the children done for the past month.

We have started our Weekly Moral Education Assembly where teachers will do storytelling, role-playing, movies and songs to inculcate good values to our children.

STORYTELLING

Storytelling is an art that has mental, social and educational benefits on children.  Children are great fans of stories and love to listen to them.

In our weekly moral education assembly, we will not forget to tell a story to the children.  It became a platform for us to transfer our knowledge and values to them.

VIDEO

Our teachers made the assembly interesting by making use of variety of tools to teach the children good values.  One of the media we used are the online video learning resources provide by Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism website.

You may also visit the website for more information.  They also have tip for parents.

Let's sing along and watch this short music video with your child now!

Beside our newly launched weekly assembly, Chinese New Year had just past too.  We do not missed the opportunity we have in promoting values to our children.

Our children visited the residents of Blk 652 on the eve of Chinese New year.  They greeted the residents with best wishes for the new year and their handmade chinese new year cards and mandarin oranges.  In this trip, the children learn to be good neighbours by walking quietly and talking softly in order not to disturb others.  The children greeted all the residents, be it chinese, malay and indian.  It is a way to appreciate every culture, every races and everyone.

Chinese New Year Neighbourhood Greeting Visit

The teachers were preparing the oranges brought by the children themselves.

Children were queuing up and waiting patiently for the lift.
(Not forgetting to pose for the camera)

Yeah! K1/2 were on their way to visiting the resident.  Look at their excited faces.

Yu xuan greeting the resident.

It's Jonathan's turn.
Teacher Sharmini leading the K1 children.
Who's turn is it now?

Sweets-Give-Away-Time

The residents were giving out sweet to our children in return.
The children were, of cause, very very happy.

Everyone were excited about the sweets but they do not forget that they needs to take turn to get it.

Looks who had we met?  Andrea

She had done her visiting in the morning and now she was being visited and greeted by her fellow school mates in the afternoon.

Our children were posing to the camera for the resident.

Although the children were tired after visiting and greeting every levels, but it was a fruitful experiences for them.

HAPPY CHINESE YEAR TO YOU!

In this Chinese New Year, good foods are everywhere, pineapple tarts, love letter, soft drinks and etc, while promoting values to the children, we also want them to understand the important keeping fit and staying healthy.

Health on Wheel

We have invited the Health Promotion Board "Health on Wheel" bus to our centre.

SANITIZE YOUR HAND, STAY AWAY FROM GERMS

The children were getting their hands sanitized before proceeding up to the bus.

Station 3

Station 4
It's a 30 minutes short tour to the bus but children had learnt a lot on how to stay healthy through the interactive activities. The health care instructors had guided the children well and the children were well engaged.

We look forward for more activities next month.

Goodbye.

Cheers,

Christina

Our Revised Vision, Mission and Core Values 2014

Dear Parent,

We have reviewed and revised our school's vision, mission and core values.

Our Vision
To be the Premier Kindergarten of choice in the community, where every child are nurtured to be an active, engaged and motivated learner.

Our Mission
To provide a nurturing and engaging environment for children to be grow and be L.O.V.ED ~ “Live Our Value EveryDay.”

Our Core Values
Respect - Be respectful to all individual
Responsibility – Be responsible for our behaviour
Resilience – Be resilient to new challenges

Children are like sponges. They observe and soak up everything there is in their environment, mainly through sight and hearing. They learn from mimicking people such as their teachers, their parents or other adults around them.  We want our children to learn the best, therefore, we start by being a good role model to them and continue to mould them to become a better person in the society.

Let us work together and continue to L.O.V.ED ~ Live Our Values EveryDay!

Today is Racial Harmony Day

We are celebrating Racial Harmony today. It's great to see the children and teacher putting on traditional costume to school.

The teacher was explaining what was Racial Harmony day about.

The K1 children was singing the greeting song in 4 different languages. Well done.

Beside singing, the children dance the different race's dances.
Teacher Florence was singing "Tong Yao"

Following next was the Malay dance and Indian dance by Teacher Rohani, Teacher Salina and Teacher Erlyn.
Malay Dance
Indian dance

The children had great fun dancing.

Beside the usual, this year, our children had a chance to experience how to wrap a kacang puteh.

KACANG PUTEH TIME

Teacher Rohani was demonstrating how to wrap the Kacang puteh.

Little Asyari (twisting and folding and getting frustrated): " I cannot", "I cannot"
He saw his friend still trying, he continued. His perseverance pays off. Finally he made it. He was so happy showing me the paper cone he made himself.

It took great effort for the children to make the paper cone and they feel very happy with their achievement.

It's time for them to put on their favorite kacang. Yummy!

At the end of the day, the children brought home the kacang puteh they made.

Last but not least, I am wishing everyone Happy Racial Harmony Day.

Cheers,
Christina

EARTH DAY - PROTECT OUR EARTH

Earth Day is an annual event, celebrated on April 22, on which events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

We also want to create awareness to our children in school, getting them to be active in protecting our Mother Earth.

Let's watch this cartoon with your child and explain to them the important of saving earth.

There are some simple ways to introduce environmentalism to your child that can be both enjoyable and education; Try it out with your child now:

  1. Grab a plastic bag and some rubber gloves and pick up litter in your neighbourhood. Talk about why we don’t litter, from aesthetic reasons to health and safety reasons for both animals and humans.
  2. Make a nature collage. Your toddler can collect natural items “discarded” by nature (think bark and old leaves) and glue them to some paper.
  3. Have your own “Earth Hour” (the idea of lights out for an hour). Talk about why it’s important to conserve electricity.
  4. Read some children’s books about the environment or nature. Check your local library for ideas

You may want to bring your child to join the following activities out of the house:

Clean-up a Park

Let’s walk the talk and do our bit for the environment at Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park’s Park Clean-up 2013!
Date: 27 April 2013Time: 8.00 am to 10.00 am or 4.00 pm to 6.00 pm

Hope you enjoy the video and activities.

Stay tune for more updates.

Cheers,

Christina
