Happy Deepavali!

Do you know?

Diwali (in Hindi) or Deepavali (in Tamil) is the Hindu Festival of Lights. The name originally comes from the Sanskrit word dipavali, meaning a row of lights. Wherever Diwali is being celebrated you will see shops, houses and public places decorated with small, earthenware, oil lamps known as diyas. They are usually placed in rows on window sills and outside buildings as decorations.

Another well recognized activity we know of probably are the Rangoli Patterns, beautifully made decorations, drawn on floors and even pavements, usually with rice flour and water, or dry and made with powdery, colored sand.

Rangoli Craft
Rangolis and Diwali is synonymous. The most common practice is to make the Rangoli at the main entrance of the home, inviting Goddess Lakshmi for year round prosperity. However, you can also hang rangolis above doors. Here we give you a Rangoli idea that you can hang on the walls, by making it on a piece of large cardboard, or make it directly on the floor.

Materials you will need:
A full size Cardboard piece, if you intend to hang it.
Black marker pen
coloring of any sort, suited to the craft.
Rangoli pattern
Colour Crepe papers and Glue

Instructions :
Print out a Rangoli pattern of your choice from our Rangoli page and trace it onto cardboard (or the floor, as the case may be), using a black marker.

Cut the coloured crepe paper into small pieces and roll them into small balls. (Your child can helo you with the cutting and rolling of the crepe paper.  It is a good fine motor exercise for them.)
spread glue onto the Rangoli, section by section.

While the glue is still wet, have children carefully paste the colored crepe balls within the Rangoli pattern. Make it a joint effort, with kids doing the pasting, you can help them to roll more crepe balls.

When the Rangoli is finished, let it dry thoroughly.

If you had made it on a cardboard, make two holes on two corners, and hang it wherever you want.

I hope you will enjoy the Diwali activity with your child during the weekend.

Cheers,

Ms Christina.

Happy Mother's Day

We have always know that one of our most important people in everyone's life is our mother.  She is the one who carry us in her wombs, vomitted their food, suffered headaches and feel fatigue and weakness of their body every morning for about nine months and it's not the end.  After the nine months, they continues to care for us and protect us from dangers.  They will wake up in the middle of the night when everyone is asleep to check our needs when we are sick.  They gets weak and tired but because they are mothers, they never complain and make all sacrifices wholeheartedly without hoping to get anything in return.

Being a mother is hard and tiring, but receiving a simple smile, hugs and kisses from us is enough to take away their tiredness. This coming Sunday, 11 May 2014, is Mother's Day.  The children and us could not verbally express how much we love our mother.  But we would like to present every mother a small present made by the children themselves and a song they have practiced, hoping to be able to sing to every mother on this special day.

Every mother is special and important.

Let's sing along with your children - Happy Mother's Day Song

Loves,

Christina

What's Happening in January 2014?

Dear Parents,

Times flies and we are already in the middle of Term 1.  Let's take a look at what had the children done for the past month.

We have started our Weekly Moral Education Assembly where teachers will do storytelling, role-playing, movies and songs to inculcate good values to our children.

STORYTELLING

Storytelling is an art that has mental, social and educational benefits on children.  Children are great fans of stories and love to listen to them.

In our weekly moral education assembly, we will not forget to tell a story to the children.  It became a platform for us to transfer our knowledge and values to them.

VIDEO

Our teachers made the assembly interesting by making use of variety of tools to teach the children good values.  One of the media we used are the online video learning resources provide by Lee Kuan Yew Fund for Bilingualism website.

You may also visit the website for more information.  They also have tip for parents.

Let's sing along and watch this short music video with your child now!

Beside our newly launched weekly assembly, Chinese New Year had just past too.  We do not missed the opportunity we have in promoting values to our children.

Our children visited the residents of Blk 652 on the eve of Chinese New year.  They greeted the residents with best wishes for the new year and their handmade chinese new year cards and mandarin oranges.  In this trip, the children learn to be good neighbours by walking quietly and talking softly in order not to disturb others.  The children greeted all the residents, be it chinese, malay and indian.  It is a way to appreciate every culture, every races and everyone.

Chinese New Year Neighbourhood Greeting Visit

The teachers were preparing the oranges brought by the children themselves.

Children were queuing up and waiting patiently for the lift.
(Not forgetting to pose for the camera)

Yeah! K1/2 were on their way to visiting the resident.  Look at their excited faces.

Yu xuan greeting the resident.

It's Jonathan's turn.
Teacher Sharmini leading the K1 children.
Who's turn is it now?

Sweets-Give-Away-Time

The residents were giving out sweet to our children in return.
The children were, of cause, very very happy.

Everyone were excited about the sweets but they do not forget that they needs to take turn to get it.

Looks who had we met?  Andrea

She had done her visiting in the morning and now she was being visited and greeted by her fellow school mates in the afternoon.

Our children were posing to the camera for the resident.

Although the children were tired after visiting and greeting every levels, but it was a fruitful experiences for them.

HAPPY CHINESE YEAR TO YOU!

In this Chinese New Year, good foods are everywhere, pineapple tarts, love letter, soft drinks and etc, while promoting values to the children, we also want them to understand the important keeping fit and staying healthy.

Health on Wheel

We have invited the Health Promotion Board "Health on Wheel" bus to our centre.

SANITIZE YOUR HAND, STAY AWAY FROM GERMS

The children were getting their hands sanitized before proceeding up to the bus.

Station 4
It's a 30 minutes short tour to the bus but children had learnt a lot on how to stay healthy through the interactive activities. The health care instructors had guided the children well and the children were well engaged.

We look forward for more activities next month.

Goodbye.

Cheers,

Christina

Our Revised Vision, Mission and Core Values 2014

Dear Parent,

We have reviewed and revised our school's vision, mission and core values.

Our Vision
To be the Premier Kindergarten of choice in the community, where every child are nurtured to be an active, engaged and motivated learner.

Our Mission
To provide a nurturing and engaging environment for children to be grow and be L.O.V.ED ~ “Live Our Value EveryDay.”

Our Core Values
Respect - Be respectful to all individual
Responsibility – Be responsible for our behaviour
Resilience – Be resilient to new challenges

Children are like sponges. They observe and soak up everything there is in their environment, mainly through sight and hearing. They learn from mimicking people such as their teachers, their parents or other adults around them.  We want our children to learn the best, therefore, we start by being a good role model to them and continue to mould them to become a better person in the society.

Let us work together and continue to L.O.V.ED ~ Live Our Values EveryDay!
