School Excursion to Kids Kampong

The children went to Kids Kampong on 27 April 2012 as part of our curriculum on the theme of Animals.

Arrival of the Pre-Nursery children ...

Following by the K1 children at the waiting area ...

The K2 children are brought to watch the Pet Show ...

On arrival of all children, children from Pre-Nursery, Nursery and K1 proceed to the Feeding Station ...

Pre-Nursery and Nursery children at the feeding area for the fishes.  They were given a packet of food to feed the fishes.  And they have the chance to get real close to these fishes, the children are allowed to touch the fish but they are "squeezing" the fishes. Haha!!

Pre-Nursery looking out... "Should I touch or not??"

Nursery children observing ..... and .....

3
let's squeeze the fishes!

K1 children: "Come little fishes, come to my hands....I want to feed you."

Time for catching some fishes!  The children caught more fishes than the teachers.

"Let me show you how to catch some fishes!"

Some educational activities taught at Kids Kampong,  the uncle taught the children about the ducks.  Do you know what is the different between a male duck and a female duck?

Uncle explaining to the children about the duck.

Let me catch a duck out to show you!

the duck has wedded feet and they can swim.

Touch the feather and how does it feel, children?

The duck can swim.

Next, the children proceed to their long-waited Pet show!  They get to feel the hamsters, rabbit and also holding the white mice by their tail.

Touching the hamsters.

The rabbit.

This is the most fun experience for the children.  They hold the tail of the white mouse and pass it to the friend next to them.  Just when the uncle say: "Children, please don't throw the mouse on the floor and step on them."  I heard a commotion.  The nursery children throw the mouse on the floor and step on them.  Superman uncle quickly went to the rescue and saved the poor mouse.

The children had great fun and at the same time, they also learnt a lot from the uncle at Kids Kampong.

It's a wonderful trip.

Cheers,

Christina

Our Mini-Library!

During the June Holiday,  all the teachers and myself have work very hard to re-vamp our AVA room into a Mini-Library for our children in Blk 652.

Door to Our Mini-Library.

The purpose of setting up the Mini-Library is to promote Language and Literacy to the children.  We also encourage the parent to work hand in hand with us by bringing the children to the library or reading to them during the weekend to further enhance their language skill.

Let take a tour into the Wonderful Mini-Library ~~~~

The books are all sorted by level : from Easy to Difficult, so as to cater to the different needs of different children.

The teachers will also enhance the reading of story by using the puppets

Beside puppets, while the children are in the Mini-library, they will be tasked with activities such as Book Reviews, Spotting High frequency Words/New Words, Comic Drawing and etcs.  Activities sheets are available in the Mini-Library.

Activities sheets for the children.

To make visiting the Mini-Library more fun for the children, each child will be given a Mini-Library cards to get stamps for every activities that they have completed.  This is to motivate the children to participate actively in the Reading Programme and enjoy the activities.

Happy Valentine's Day

Dear Parents,

I would like to wish all of you a Happy Valentine's Day.  The children had really enjoyed themselves in the Project of baking valentine sandwich cookies.  As I believe, most of the children had already brought home their master pieces or maybe they can't even wait to bring it home and have eatten it in school.

Now I am presenting the ..........

  Easy Valentine Sandwich Cookie
by the children

and the recipe for you and your child to try it at home for this happy occasion.

EASY VALENTINE SANDWICH COOKIE (RECIPE)

"This recipe makes 17-3 inch sandwich cookies and 17-1 1/2 inch heart shaped cookies.  You'll need a 3-inch heart shaped cutter and a 1 1/2-inch heart shaped cutter.  Frost with Pink Valentine Frosting."

Ingredients:
1 cup and 3 tabespoons butter       (optional)
1-3/4 cups confectioners' sugar       2-3/1 cups and 3 tablespoons all purpose flour
1-1/4 egg                                       1-1/4 teaspoons baking soda
1-1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract        1-1/4 teaspoons cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Directions:

You have scaled this recipe's ingredients to yied a new amount (20).
The directions below still refer to the original recipe yield (17).
  1. In a large bowl, cream together butter and confectioners' sugar.  beat in egg, vanilla and almond extract.  Mix well.
  2. In a medium bowl, stir together flour, baking soda and cream of tartar; blend into the butter mixture.  Divide dough into thirds and shape into balls.
  3. Working with 1/3 of dough at a time, roll out dough into desired thickness on a lightly floured surface.  For each heart sandwich cookie, cut out 2 3-inch hearts.  Cut out the center and ONE of the 3-inch hearts with the 1 1/2-inch cutter.
  4. Place each piece separately on an ungreased cookie sheet, 1-2 inch apart.  Bake in a preheated, 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) oven until lightly browned (7-6 minutes for 1/4 inch thick cookies).  Cool completely on wire rack.  Frost bottom cookie on top to form the sandwich.  Also frost the small 1 1/2 inch hearts and serve as separate cookies.
And of cause, by the look of our children's made cookie, the teacher have simplified the recipe and the making of the cookie.  You may modified the recipe yourself too.

Hope you would enjoy this activity with your child at home.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!
